No Greater Love Than God’s

How Do I Learn To Receive Love?

John 13:8

New Living Translation

8 “No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!”

Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.”

We are taught to obey the laws of God above no other law this shows honor and respect to him as a man and our God one thing you must do out of love and respect to him is the practice of washing feet many churches throughout the world do this practice

It is an honor of love, respect and living sacrifice it is what Jesus has told us to do to be his unless we practice foot washing in relationship with him we will not be showing him love and honor as he wants and deserves

Philippians 3:9

New Living Translation

9 and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.

You can not live an I Life living all about yourself and your own righteousness but about God’s righteousness and living our lives right in faith through Christ our lives should represent and reflect him in all reverence

Luke 18:16

New Living Translation

16 Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.

But Jesus called the little children to him and said to his followers, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because God’s kingdom belongs to people who are like these little children.

Hosea 2:20

New Living Translation

20

I will be faithful to you and make you mine,

and you will finally know me as the Lord.

The Lord, Jesus promises to always be faithful in everything in our lives that he will show us his true self making us his that we then and only then will know him as the lord

Why should I love God?

Deuteronomy 6:5

New Living Translation

5 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.

We are taught to love one another in reverence that includes loving God the same as well

Joshua 22:5

New Living Translation

5 But be very careful to obey all the commands and the instructions that Moses gave to you. Love the Lord your God, walk in all his ways, obey his commands, hold firmly to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul.”

But remember—continue to obey the law that the Lord’s servant Moses gave you. You must love the Lord your God and obey his commands. You must continue to follow him and serve him the very best that you can.”

Mark 12:29-30

New Living Translation

29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’

mark 12:29-30 Jesus answered, “The most important command is this: ‘People of Israel, listen! The Lord our God is the only Lord. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength

Psalm 116:1

New Living Translation

Psalm 116

I love the Lord because he hears my voice

    and my prayer for mercy.

Always love The Lord for he always loves you hears you and is only an ear away at all and any times

1 John 3:1

New Living Translation

3 See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.

1John 3: 1 The Father has loved us so much! This shows how much he loved us: We are called children of God. And we really are his children. But the people in the world don’t understand that we are God’s children, because they have not known him.

1 John 4:19

New Living Translation

19 We love each other because he loved us first.

We have learned to love each other in his image because he first loved us and showed us his grace

John 15:10&11

New Living Translation

10 When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. 11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!

I have obeyed my Father’s commands, and he continues to love me. In the same way, if you obey my commands, I will continue to love you. 11 I have told you these things so that you can have the true happiness that I have. I want you to be completely happy.

There are many thousands! Here are just a few:

First, God designed and made us. Not only that, but He made us in His image – that is, able to think and feel, understand and love and take responsibility, just as He does. The Bible tells us that when God designed and created the world, He said,

“Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”. (Genesis 1:26)

That’s a great honor!

Secondly, He is interested in us.

For he knows the secrets of the heart. (Psalm 44:21)

And even though He knows all about us, He still loves us! He could turn away from us in disgust, but He carries on loving us.

Thirdly, He wants to give us all that we need to be happy and satisfied in life.

If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:31-32)

That brings me to the greatest reason for loving God. He is perfectly good and we are rebels, but instead of despising us, He gave His own Son to die for us:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”. (John 3:16)

Lastly, God commands us to love Him.

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might”. (Deuteronomy 6:5)

It must be very important to love God if He commands us to do it!

I could go on listing reasons to love God, but instead, I’d like to ask you a question: “do you love God?”

The sad thing is that many people do not love Him, though they may respect Him. Actually, the Bible says that we often behave like His enemies, because we do wrong things.

So how can someone really love God?

Just as you love your parents and your friends because you know and trust them, you can love God when you know and trust Him through Christ. Jesus said that He is the only way to God. He died for us so that we can be forgiven and have God as our beloved Father. But we need to admit our sins and turn from them; this is called repentance. Even more than that, we need to believe in Jesus as our Saviour and Lord. Then God will be our Father and make Himself known to us. This is an amazing reason to love Him!

In summary, there are many reasons to love God but the most important is that He gave his Son to save us and be with us forever. I encourage you to ask God for forgiveness and to ask Jesus to be your Lord and Saviour.

Here are some more Bible Verses for your further consideration:

• John 14:16

Many of us love God.

But some just respect God and do not love Him. Some indicate that they hate the term God. All these three groups will list various reasons for their respective relationship with God. Even those of us who love him will highlight differing reasons for doing so.

Here is an English translation of a poem from Spanish poet Leon Felipe (1884-1968), who was born in Spain but lived his later life in Mexico. This was translated by Harvard Divinity School student Walter Smelt and published in the recent issue of “Harvard Divinity Bulletin.”

Spanish translation

Señor,
Te quiero
porque juegas limpio.
Sin apilar la cubierta, sin milagros.
Tarjeta por tarjeta,
me dejas acostarlos
sin utopías, nada
bajo la manga
mientras juego
tu terrible
solitario.

English Translation

Lord,

I love you

because you play clean.

No stacking the deck, no miracles.

Card by card,

you let me lay them down—

no utopias, nothing

up your sleeve—

as I play out

your terrible

solitaire.

We asked our panel of distinguished religious leaders of the region the following question: Why do we love God?

Here is what they have to say:

Muhammed A. Quddus, Northern Nevada Muslim Community member

If love is a feeling of affection, warmth and appreciation, the reasons for the believers to love God are obvious. To them, it is God who created them, protects them, sustains them, and it is to whom they shall return to an eternal life in a paradise, hopefully. It is God’s miracle that develops babies from “nutfah,” nurtures them in mothers’ wombs, brings them into this world as beautiful little creations, and offers boundless potentials to do good in this world as adults. As they grow, endless opportunities are made available by God for them to enjoy the gifts of this life and earn rewards by performing good deeds to secure an enjoyable place for eternity in the life thereafter.

Yes, the humans are subject to accountability for their actions. However, without accountability, life would be, as Thomas Hobbes put it, “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short.” What is there not to love God?

GOD IS LOVE

Robert W. Chorey, Roman Catholic Diocese of Reno curia moderator

God loves us first. It starts with this and only this. Then start with the reality that there is absolutely no reason for you, me or any of us to exist, and yet we do. We are intended … God loves us and God wants us.

Gratitude would be the next awareness, I am grateful for simply being. I am grateful for you simply being. That gratitude is only for God.

Jesus Christ reveals the extent of God’s love; willing to give of self for all to save the world; save it from our ingratitude, from our self-centeredness that causes so much suffering for all.

Gratitude can only increase when we personally become aware of this.

Gratitude that is ultimately love; the acceptance of the utter goodness of God. Love that acknowledges the good in all of creation, in all of others.

Final realization: We are created by God to love.

LOVE HEALS ALL

Matthew T. Fisher, Reno Buddhist Center resident priest

Buddhism is a nontheistic world view; we have no direct answer to the question. We do not worship any god or gods as part of Buddhist practice. We do have deep gratitude to the Wisdom and Compassion of the Universe and to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who guide and sustain us through our spiritual journey.

The Buddha taught three forms of love: loving-kindness, compassion, and sympathetic joy. They are three qualities of heart that reside within us. Skillful spiritual practice brings love into all of life and to all we encounter. Love can be present when we speak, conflict and live with others. This is challenging, but possible. It begins with setting the intention. Practicing loving-kindness, even briefly, each day is beneficial. A drop of practice is effective, as the Buddha said, “With each drop of water, the jug is filled.”
