Blessed Are Those Who Do Not See But Believe

John 20:29

New Living Translation

29 Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”

This is outright a biggy on faith for as humans we tend to want evidence of that which we see before us to believe the unbelievable but the truly blessed are those who hear or walk the unbelievable journeys and miracles and have nothing in sight but put all they hope on on the line and believe by faith of the unseen

In the King James Version of the Bible it is translated as: Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. … Blessed are those who have not seen, and have believed.”

Verse Thoughts

So often we refer to the son of Didymus as ‘doubting Thomas’, yet when Christ’s other disciples expressed a reluctance to go to Jerusalem for fear of the Jews, it was Thomas who, cried out,  “Let us also go, that we may die with Him”. Thomas was also the disciple who prompted the Lord to say, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” when he questioned Him, by saying, “Lord, we do not know where You are going. How can we know the way?”

There is no doubt that Thomas was a redeemed man who believed in the risen Lord Jesus and was a pillar of the early Church. He worshipped his Saviour as “my Lord and my God”, but only after he had seen that Jesus was alive from the dead. Like all the other disciples, Thomas forsook Him in the garden and fled when Jesus was arrested. And like the others, who grieved at His crucifixion, he allowed despair to overwhelm him, to such an extent, that he vowed, “Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side, I will not believe!”

Thomas was not the fool who says in his heart, “there is no God.” He was not the rebellious man, with ‘a reprobate mind’, as described in Romans chapter 1. Thomas loved the Lord desperately, but allowed human reasoning to eclipse the truth. He permitted unbelief to cloud his faith. Thomas, like so many today, yearned that his human senses would secure the deep desire of his heart. So many today long for a voice or vision to supplement their faith. They desire a supernatural sign or a special revelation to safeguard their trust in God. But we are to live by faith and not by sight. We are to live by faith and not by signs. We are to live by faith and not because of some alternative system that supports our faith.

Thomas’ hope in Christ was reignited, and he believed in the Lord Jesus Christ because he saw Him with his own eyes and worshipped Him when He came and stood among His followers in the upper room. But the Lord gently scolded this chosen apostle, who had been with Him throughout His earthly ministry, with the words, “because you have seen Me, you have believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”

One week earlier, Christ’s other followers were invited to come and touch His body, to see their risen Saviour was not a ghost, so that their faith in Him would similarly be rekindled and inflamed. On both occasions, to a lesser or greater degree, trust was triggered and faith was stimulated through the physical senses of sight and touch. But this is not how it should have been, for we are to live by faith and not sight. Faith is the evidence of things we do not see or touch or hear!

Whatever value we place on bodily senses or emotional awareness to stimulate and inform us, God’s greater commendation and divine approbation is given to the one who is not influenced by physical senses, human emotions or life’s circumstances, but who simply trusts His Word. “Blessed are they that have NOT seen, and yet have believed”.

The experience Thomas went through eight days later, when the disciples were again inside and Thomas with them, was written for our learning as well as for his, for even though the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them, and said, “Peace be with you,” and said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Take your hand, and put it into my side.” Then Jesus told him, “because you have seen Me, you have believed. How blessed are those who have never seen Me and yet have believed.”

The approval and blessing of God is on the one who has faith in His Son, trusts His Word of truth, and believes the Holy Scriptures. We are to live by faith, not by sight or sense or situations. We are to live by trusting God’s Word and believing His promises, not because of what we see or what we feel, and there is a special promise for those who have not seen the risen, ascended, glorified Lord Jesus but have believed on Him.

Thomas made three very bold and bolshie announcements when he was told of Christ’s resurrection. UNLESS I shall see in His hands the print of the nails; UNLESS I put my finger into the print of the nails, and UNLESS thrust my hand into His side, I WILL NOT BELIEVE. Yet we do not hear that he handled the Lord and poked the wounds in His hands, feet, and side. Instead, we discover his faith is reignited as he pronounces a most earth-shattering declaration, “for Thomas answered and said to Him, ‘My Lord and my God!'”

Although God knows that trust may be triggered by our senses, emotions, and daily living, He also knows those things can as easily be shattered into a thousand tiny fragments and sifted like wheat by Satan, if faith is not securely anchored to Christ as fact. No wonder the Lord Jesus in this gentle chiding of His dearly loved disciple, who had walked with Him for three long years, was to explain the secure and better way, “Blessed are those that have not seen Me, and yet have believed in Me, for they will not be disappointed.”

There may be times we wished we had lived in the days of the apostles and SEEN the Lord with our own eyes, and felt His gentle touch, but how blessed are we who have not seen Him in the physical realm but have SEEN Him with the spiritual eye of faith and are still able to cry as Thomas did, “my Lord, and my God.”

Bare More Fruit

www.facebook.com/1219817045/posts/10226111369950316/

John 15:2

New Living Translation

2 He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.

He cuts away all sin and evil growth of mine where it has soiled, died or wilted that doesn’t produce good fruit then he prunes the parts of me which do all good growth so that they will thrive and prosper further in growth

Verse Thoughts

The pictures of Christ as the true Vine, is a very precious concept to most believers. All Christians are branches of the true Vine, for all are taken out of Adam and placed into Christ. All are in union with Him from the point of rebirth, and as branches we share His life, both on earth and in the eternal ages to come.

However, all branches are commanded to abide in Him, and so our privileged position becomes an important day-by-day responsibility, and we are warned that every branch in Christ that does not bear fruit is taken away, but every fruiting branch is pruned by our heavenly Father, to make it increasingly fruitful.

Some erroneously suggest that the unfruitful branch is a man or woman, pretending to be a Christian, but no unbeliever is ever placed into Christ by the Holy Spirit. Many mistakenly consider this to be a Christian that has lost his salvation, but this flies in the face of the undeniable scriptural truth, that our position in Christ is eternally secure.

Still others contend that it refers to the unfruitful carnal believer, who backslides in his Christian walk and does not manifest the beautiful fruit of the Spirit, which is rooted in lovem while other point the sombre fact of the discipline of physical death, of which Paul speaks in 1 Corinthians 11. The suggestion that the Father “lifts up’ the unfruitful branch to encourage fruitfulness, is another thought, that sits comfortably with the duel meaning of the Greek verb “airo’.

Let us acknowledge the privileged position we have in Christ and make it our important day-by-day responsibility and delight to abide in Christ, to walk in spirit and truth, to submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives and to willingly embrace the pruning knife of our heavenly Father – so that we may bear fruit, more fruit – much fruit, to His praise and glory.

John 15:2

Every branch in me that beareth not fruit

There are two sorts of branches in Christ the vine; the one sort are such who have only an historical faith in him, believe but for a time, and are removed; they are such who only profess to believe in him, as Simon Magus did; are in him by profession only; they submit to outward ordinances, become church members, and so are reckoned to be in Christ, being in a church state, as the churches of Judea and Thessalonica, and others, are said, in general, to he in Christ; though it is not to be thought that every individual person in these churches were truly and savingly in him. These branches are unfruitful ones; what fruit they seemed to have, withers away, and proves not to be genuine fruit; what fruit they bring forth is to themselves, and not to the glory of God, being none of the fruits of his Spirit and grace: and such branches the husbandman

taketh away;

removes them from that sort of being which they had in Christ. By some means or another he discovers them to the saints to be what they are; sometimes he suffers persecution to arise because of the word, and these men are quickly offended, and depart of their own accord; or they fall into erroneous principles, and set up for themselves, and separate from the churches of Christ; or they become guilty of scandalous enormities, and so are removed from their fellowship by excommunication; or if neither of these should be the case, but these tares should grow together with the wheat till the harvest, the angels will be sent forth, who will gather out of the kingdom of God all that offend and do iniquity, and cast them into a furnace of fire, as branches withered, and fit to be burnt.

And every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may

bring forth more fruit.

These are the other sort of branches, who are truly and savingly in Christ; such as are rooted in him; to whom he is the green fir tree, from whom all their fruit is found; who are filled by him with all the fruits of his Spirit, grace, and righteousness. These are purged or pruned, chiefly by afflictions and temptations, which are as needful for their growth and fruitfulness, as the pruning and cutting of the vines are for theirs; and though these are sometimes sharp, and never joyous, but grievous, yet they are attended with the peaceable fruits of righteousness, and so the end of bringing forth more fruit is answered; for it is not enough that a believer exercise grace, and perform good works for the present, but these must remain; or he must be constant herein, and still bring forth fruit, and add one virtue to another, that it may appear he is not barren and unfruitful in the knowledge of Christ, in whom he is implanted. These different acts of the vinedresser “taking away” some branches, and “purging” others, are expressed by the Misnic doctors

John 15:2 Explained – Does God Cut Off Branches With No Fruit?

Many Christians read John 15:2 and ask us ‘does this apply to us and does God cut off branches and throw them away if we don’t produce fruit’?

In John 15:2 we read:

He CUTS OFF every branch IN ME that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes

So there’s a problem here. This verse in John 15:2 identified this person as every branch ‘IN ME’. So, this means the Christian (who is IN CHRIST) is now being cut off and is going to hell.

Side Note: Some translations say ‘take away’.

The majority of us do NOT believe in losing salvation, including most bible commentators and translators. So, they try and explain this verse away by twisting it to have a different meaning.

However, I don’t see how you can get away from this translation meaning a Christian who stops producing fruit is ‘cut off’ and in that context, thrown into hell.

What if the bible translators simply did a poor job of interpreting the Greek word in its true context?

The Greek word here is “airo” and it can be translated as ‘cut off’, ‘removed’, or, I believe more correctly as ‘take up’, and ‘to raise’.

Strong’s Concordance:

airó: to raise, take up, lift

Original Word: αἴρω

Part of Speech: Verb

Transliteration: airó

Phonetic Spelling: (ah’-ee-ro)

Short Definition: I raise, lift up

Definition: I raise, lift up, take away, remove.

So, in context, what this verse really should say is:

He LIFTS UP every branch IN ME that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes.

This lifting up of branches actually causes them to start to produce fruit again.

It was a common practice for a vinedresser to stretch the vine on an arbor or use some other means of raising it to the air and sun.

Note: it’s NOT OUR FRUIT. It’s the fruit of the Spirit. That’s why verse 4 tells us we CAN’T bear fruit on our own…..because you don’t have the ability to do it. Let me take it further….. not only is it IMPOSSIBLE for a Christian to bear good fruit on our own, but according to Matthew 7:18 it’s also IMPOSSIBLE for you to bear BAD FRUIT!

A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.

Wait, how can that be? How can it be impossible for a Christian (good tree) not to produce bad fruit? Simple. It’s because the fruit is not a human work. It’s referring only to what comes from the Spirit. The Spirit can NOT produce even one bad fruit. But you, as a human, even a Christian, produce bad fruit all the time.

Side Note: regarding this word ‘abide’  in these verses in John 15. Abide is NOT a HUMAN EFFORT or a TRY HARDER word. Abide simply means ‘live’. Christians LIVE IN CHRIST (and He lives in us), and it is impossible for us not to ABIDE in Him if we are believers.

So good news! If, by chance, we good trees are not bearing good fruit for a time, we are not going to be cut off, but rather we will be lifted up.

Stand On Your Belief In Hope

1 Peter 3:15 (New Living Translation)

Share Audio

Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.

Worship in reverence Christ as Lord of your life. Be ready to defend and stand for what you believe for that of God’s word and if someone asks you be respectful and gentle and answer in full explanation answer in hope

Verse Thoughts

Peter finished his godly advice to husbands and wives with guidance on suffering for righteousness sake. He gave wise instruction on how to grow in grace and live a godly life.. and he encouraged them as he encourages us.. to live in harmony with our Christian brothers and sisters.

He encourages us to guard our heart and our speech and to turn from evil and do good. We are to seek peace and to pursue it and we are to be sanctified unto God and live godly in Christ Jesus – which is the Father’s will for all His children.

We are called to be holy even as our Father in heaven is holy and we are instructed to be sanctified unto God in our hearts – by faith with thanksgiving and praise.

But there is one more piece of godly wisdom that Peter pens to all the elect of God who are set apart unto Him – a directive that we would all do well to note – no matter where we live in the world and no matter what our life-circumstances may be. As God’s children, we should be ready to answer anyone who asks us about our faith in Christ and our trust in God. We should all be equipped to talk of our blessed hope and the grace of God that gives salvation to whosoever will call upon the name of the Lord.

We should all be properly prepared and readily inclined to give a defence of the gospel of grace, in which we stand.. to give an answer for the blessed hope we have in our heart and to share the glorious hope that we have in Christ Jesus our Saviour – and we are exhorted to do this in gentleness of spirit – in reverence and in grace

Jesus, The Light Of The World

John 8:12

New Living Translation

Jesus, the Light of the World

12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

“Anyone who struggles to understand the world needs only look to Christ in and by whom all things are illuminated.”

For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that he may remove all mans darkness and sin He walks with man covering all darkness and preparing him for eternal life with him in the light of Good…

“Christ shows us that the world was fallen and that God has a plan to save it. “

God erases all sin and gives eternal salvation a life in pureness with him he prepares your way in close guidance and direction dictating his plan in silence and understanding

Verse Thoughts

Christ is the image of the invisible God. He is the Son of God, Who is God the Son, and He came to earth to shed the light of the Father to the far-flung corners of the universe. That light shines in the darkness, but darkness and evil cannot quench the light of His love. He is the shining Light, that alone enlightens the darkened soul of man. He is that gentle Light, that pours warmth into the chilled human breast.

He is that gracious Light, that streams eternal love into the broken lives of Adam’s fallen race, and He is the pure Light – the redeeming Light, Who speaks new-life into the one who is dead in trespasses and sins. He breathes His sanctifying-life into the one that trusts Him as their Saviour, their Jesus, their Lord, and their God. For God is the Light of lights, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him.

Christ is the Word of the invisible God, Who created light and life when the earth was spoken into being. And He is the incarnate Word – the Light and the Life of God, Who clothed Himself in human flesh, so that mankind could be redeemed, by faith in Him. He is the One Who gives light to all men coming into the world, and He is the One Who speaks the light of life into whosoever will believe in Him for salvation.

When a woman caught in adultery was brought to the Lord Jesus, He exposed the darkness lurking in the sinful hearts of all the men, elders, Scribes, and Pharisees who were accusing her. A little later that day we read that, “Jesus spoke to the Scribes and Pharisees… and said to them, ‘I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.'”

Jesus is able to shine that pure light of truth into the hearts and consciences of everyman who believes on Him. Jesus was able to expose the hypocritical sin that was lurking within every man, elder, Scribe, and Pharisee that stood before Him that day. He had come to open their eyes to the truth. He had come to enlighten them, and show them the way of salvation, but their hearts were hardened to the incarnate Word of God. Jesus was offering these hard-hearted men the light that comes from God’s presence – the light that produces eternal life – but they resisted His invitation, and remained dead in their sins.

The Lord Jesus was the Light about Whom David wrote, for He is our Lord, our Light, and our Salvation. “Let there be light”, was the first Word God spoke at creation and light played a vital role in the Temple rites and rituals of the Mosaic Law. Light was very prominent in all of Israel’s feast days and festivals, and Jesus revealed Himself as the “Light of the World”, during the Feast of Tabernacles. The Light of the World had come into the world to tabernacle with His people – and they refused to believe.

Christ is the true Light of the World, but we who have received His new-life have been entrusted to carry the testimony of His light, His life and His love into a darkened world, and He has commanded us to live out our lives in a manner that is well-pleasing to Him. We are to walk in the light as He is in the light and we are to point lost souls to the One Who lightens our darkness and breathes life into the lifeless soul.

Today, the world is in deep darkness, and submerged in sickness, sin, evil, and ignorance… yet in His goodness and grace, Christ stripped Himself of His glory and clothed Himself in human flesh. He was born into this fallen race so that the saving light of His truth and love could shine into the recesses of man’s blackened heart and rekindle a spark of hope in the soul of men – so that whosoever believes on Him by grace through faith, would be removed from the kingdom of darkness, and placed into the brightness of God’s eternal kingdom of light.

Man has been given a free will to accept the light of the glorious gospel of grace, and all who trust in Him for salvation will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life as an abiding presence within. Jesus is the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and He is also the only Light. Jesus is the one and only true Light from above that shines His saving light and life into the hearts of all who believe in Him – for salvation is found in no other name, but the wonderful name of JESUS.

Salvation From Love

2 Timothy 1:9 (New Living Translation)

Share Audio

For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.

God Saved us out of Love and grace he saved us to take all the sin of the world and remove our evil ways that we may live a holy life walking in the way Of Christ he planned and formed your entire pathway from beginning to end he already knows what your obstacles are going to be before you do and he took it all out of his death in return for your salvation so that you be rewarded with eternal life

God saved us from the penalty of sin at Calvary. God continues to save us from the power of sin throughout our Christian life, and God is going to save us from the presence of sin when we stand before Him in glorified bodies – and it is all by grace.

We were not saved because of our goodness or achievements. We were not redeemed because of anything that we have done. We were not adopted into God’s family due to any merit that comes from us, but because in eternity past, He purposed to save us – by grace.

God knew before time began who would trust in Christ as Savior and predestined them to become like His Son. And those He predestined He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified – by grace.

And because we have been saved spirit, soul and body we have a holy calling. We are called to be holy, called to be spiritual.. called to be set apart unto God – called to live a godly life that is well-pleasing to Him, because this is His will and purpose for all who are born from above – and it is ALL by grace.

God saved us and called us to live a holy life and He did this, not because we deserved it, but because this was His plan from before the beginning of time – and He did to show us His grace.

Finding Comfort In God

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (New Living Translation)

Share Audio

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

New International Version

Praise to the God of All Comfort

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,(A) the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us(B) in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

About This Verse

Following his introductory greeting to the saints at Corinth, where the amazing grace and abundant peace of almighty God is the heavenly blessing that Paul bestows in great measure on all the congregation there. He turns his wrapped attention and deep affection upon our great God and Father in heaven: – Blessed be GOD the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; Blessed be the GOD and Father of all mercies and Blessed be our Father in heaven.. Who is the God of all comforts.

When God is ‘blessed’ by psalmist or apostle, by prophet, priest or king, it is a call for His creation to bow low before Him in adoration and worship. When His children are called to ‘Bless the Lord’, we should kneel in humble reverence before His glorious majesty, and worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. When the call to “bless the Lord” comes, we should bow down before Him – the Lord is His name.

As the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ we worship our great Creator. He loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son as the sacrifice for sin, so that whosoever believes on Him would not perish, but have everlasting life. Those who believe become children of God and are made a new creation in Him.

As the God and Father of mercies we worship before His throne of grace, acknowledging that without the spilt blood of Christ alone we would be eternally separated from our God and Saviour. But God in His mercy and love looked down in pity on a rebellious race of prideful men, and purposed in His heart that by His grace and mercy, through faith in Christ, He would redeem this lost and dying race.

He is the God of all comforts, Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort others that are in trouble.. with the same comfort we ourselves receive from God: the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ- the Father of all mercies and God of all comforts.

Let us bow down before HIM – the Lord is His name.

When God Is Excluded Tragedy And Strife

Ecclesiastes 9:12

People can never predict when hard times might come. Like fish in a net or birds in a trap, people are caught by sudden tragedy.

It comes like a spark flying through the air never expected almost always sudden and terrifying makes your heart pound in anxious worry making you either falter away from God or draw closer to him in his hopes that you will draw closer to him as he pulls you through the toughest spots ahead for there is no mountain that can’t be moved in God’s paths just gotta have faith sudden tragedy is not of God he doesn’t want us to have pain and discouragement it is work of the devil trying to bring you down just gotta have faith it’s a test of faith in the works and you need to have an open mind to find acceptance of that which may come at you

You need to stay focused on strength and guidance to pull through

God is excluded from people’s lives. It is really man’s ignorance of God’s plans and purposes for humanity that fed into Solomon’s disturbing conclusions.

The entire book of Ecclesiastes appears to cover how the injustices and disadvantages of life are common to all people, and that no one escapes the final consequences of being born into the human race – i.e. no one escapes death. But through it all, Solomon is able to reach a wise and godly conclusion, when he finally acknowledges the need to stop self-strivings, to fear God, and to allow the Lord to guard our hearts and guide our steps.

The important lesson of Ecclesiastes is that no amount of learning, experience, wealth, privilege, or power, can compare with the secure position we have in Christ – but that when wisdom, skill, prosperity, and power, are under God’s sovereign influence and subject to His control, then life has meaning. May we take to heart this compelling message of Ecclesiastes – that life is meaningless without the Lord sitting on the throne of our lives, but when God is put in His rightful position in our heart, then we are kept by His almighty power.
